Is Your Guy 'Text-Ghosting' You?
Okay, so you have had a first date and hit it off well. Naturally, you’re hoping he responds again and that you can take things forward. But if you’ve spent what seems like an eternity, phone in hand, just wishing that message pops up in the screen, stop. There’s a time limit to doing that. While some text-backs can happen instantly on within a usual 24-hour period, other times that isn’t so. Getting a response back can take even a week, depending on so many reasons. He may be trying to find out more about you from your social media presence, it could be a cased of being genuinely busy or he’s just playing a game to see how much it affects you. Worse, he could also be text-ghosting you...
'Initially I thought it was just rude behaviour, then I realised what happened'
This can happen any time
There's no thumb rule on when a person may ghost another either via his calls or non-verbal communication like texts. It's possible to disappear right at the start of a friendship and after having a few conversations and meetups, though the latter may be more hurtful. In any case, it is wrong to do so and so, the key is to not harbour significant expectations. No text message? Just pick up your own day and move ahead with it as you are better off not making any bloopers you may regret. Try and do something to distract yourself. Hit the gym, call a friend and grab a coffee, do some window shopping, a run around the block or just binge-watch a TV show.
Check these 5 rules of messaging etiquette if you are in a relationship
• Don’t text-rush – a wrongly placed word, emoticon or bad grammar can spoil things. Re-read the message and then hit send.
• A quick response to an answer is always appreciated. But if you can’t do that due to a meeting you are about to get into or if you are about to hit the shower, explain that so there’s no misunderstanding.
• Write, please. Do not write a single letter like ‘K’ to your potential significant other. It may seem curt and like you can’t be bothered enough to do more.
• Never cut off all communication or ghost someone. It’s alright to not want to talk ahead, but vanishing from the scene without an explanation is rude and considered cruel. A little politeness never hurts. Read More...
