"Go back to Holland, Louis van Gaal!"

Fans have had it with the Manchester United boss after a 1-0 home defeat to Southampton. Well, not ALL of the fans. Just the usual, hilarious ones.

Louis van Gaal’s team selection for Manchester United’s clash against Southampton had fans calling for the Dutchman’s head.

The Red Devils went into the match against the Saints knowing that a win would extend the gap between the two teams to four points.

And with much of the pre-match attention focused on Van Gaal and his opposite number Ronald Koeman – due to their much-publicised past disagreements – the United boss did nothing to divert the spotlight with his squad selection.

Having seen Radamel Falcao return from injury in recent weeks, it came as somewhat of a surprise to see the Colombian omitted from the 18-man squad.

Social media was awash with speculation as to why the on-loan striker missed out. That was until Van Gaal confirmed that the 28-year-old was fit to play, but that he had not been selected for the match.

The news didn’t sit too well with many Manchester United fans, who questioned the inclusion of youngster James Wilson and Paddy McNair.

Leaving out a fully fit Falcao. That's absolutely disgusting

Getting tired of #LouisVanGaal leaving out @FALCAO it's getting disgusting especially when he thinks his being smart @ManUtd

@ManUtd why not falcao? He's necesary for the team! I Don't Understand Van Gaal

Louis van Gaal says Radamel Falcao is not injured and he simply chose not to select him. Wow.

Seems strange that Van Gaal couldn't find a place for Falcao on the bench when there's room for Evans, Blackett and McNair.

Dropping Falcao isn't going to help his confidence is it. Van Persie or Wilson is no better, have to feel for him but it looks like he's over

— Mufc (@MUFCFutbol) January 11, 2015

i honestly c no reason y LVG keeps dropin falcao for wilson..its an insult to falcao's quality

And then, having watched Manchester United’s stale strike force struggle in front of the Saints goal for 69 minutes – the home side’s front four failing to land a single shot on target – a sense of confusion turned into outright rage as Dusan Tadic netted the game's only goal.

This is absolutely shocking. Awful performance. Bad decision for Van Gaal to drop Falcao. We needed him. So bad. Seriously.

Van Gaal probably the only coach in the world who wouldn't have had Falcao in a squad whose sub bench included Evans and Blackett.

Januzaj/Falcao rested. United 1-0 down. Blackett and Fellaini brought on when chasing a goal. Answers on a postcard from Louis van Gaal....
