Frank Lampard swaps Manchester City shirt with Stoke debutant Oliver Shenton whose mother died recently

Frank Lampard showed just how thoughtful he is after swapping shirts with Stoke debutant Oliver Shenton following Manchester City’s 4-1 win at the Britannia Stadium when he heard about the death of the 17-year-old’s mother.

Shenton enjoyed a bittersweet moment against Manuel Pellegrini’s men on Wednesday after he was brought on in the 94th minute to make his top-flight debut for Stoke – just two days after the funeral of his mother Mandy, who had sadly lost her battle with breast cancer.

The teenager’s debut in difficult circumstances didn’t go unnoticed, though, after Lampard is said to have asked Stoke striker Peter Crouch to point out Shenton before the City midfielder approached the 17-year-old and swapped shirts with him.

Lampard’s sweet gesture comes after the 36-year-old lost his own mother Pat to pneumonia while playing for Chelsea, a tragedy he later revealed left him ‘in a daze.’
