12 Proposals Received for Vilnius Airport Arrivals Terminal Architectural Competition
The international architectural competition announced by Lithuanian Airports (LTOU) at the end of 2024 to design a new arrivals terminal at Vilnius Airport has garnered significant interest, attracting twelve proposals from various architectural teams.
Public Availability of Proposals
Starting this week, all submitted architectural concepts that meet the competition requirements will be publicly accessible on the official competition website, www.vnocompetition.lt, and will also be exhibited at the Lithuanian Architects’ Union (LAS) premises.
Project Significance
Simonas Bartkus, CEO of LTOU, emphasized the importance of this project, stating, “We are taking one of the first steps toward the realization of the new arrivals terminal at Vilnius Airport. We believe that architectural teams will offer functional and seamlessly integrated solutions for one of our strategically significant future projects.” He highlighted the need for the new terminal to meet high standards of passenger comfort and operational efficiency while harmoniously integrating with the overall airport infrastructure.
Integration with Future Developments
The architectural competition aims to create a modern and functional arrivals terminal that will be integrated with the future Rail Baltica connection, the newly constructed departures terminal, and the redeveloped central square. The completion of the new arrivals terminal is anticipated by the end of 2028.
Evaluation Process
An international jury will evaluate the submitted projects in the second half of April. The five best proposals will share a total prize fund of €120,000. The winning concept is expected to be announced in the second half of May, following the jury’s vote count and necessary document verification.
