2 Hiking Trails in Rwanda 2023: Explore the Natural Beauty

If you are an adventure enthusiast and want to explore the natural beauty of Africa, Rwanda is the perfect destination for you.

With its lush green mountains, deep valleys, and stunning waterfalls, Rwanda has some of the best hiking trails in the world. In this article, we will explore the top three hiking trails in Rwanda that you must try in 2023.

Hiking Trail 1: Mount Bisoke
Mount Bisoke is an active volcano located in the Virunga Mountains, on the border between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The mountain is part of the Volcanoes National Park, which is home to some of the rarest mountain gorillas in the world. The hiking trail to the summit of Mount Bisoke is one of the most popular hikes in Rwanda.

Difficulty Level
The hike to the summit of Mount Bisoke is considered moderately difficult and takes around 6 hours to complete. The trail is well-maintained, but the steep incline and high altitude can be challenging for some hikers. It is recommended that hikers have a moderate level of fitness and acclimate to the altitude before attempting the hike.

Highlights
The highlight of the Mount Bisoke hike is the stunning crater lake at the summit. The lake is located at an altitude of 3,711 meters and is one of the highest lakes in Africa. The hike also offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and the lush green forests of the Virunga Mountains.

Hiking Trail 2: Nyungwe National Park
Nyungwe National Park is located in southwestern Rwanda and is one of the most biodiverse areas in Africa. The park is home to over 1,000 species of plants and animals, including 13 species of primates. The hiking trails in Nyungwe National Park offer hikers the opportunity to explore the park's dense forests and stunning waterfalls.

Difficulty Level
The hiking trails in Nyungwe National Park vary in difficulty level, from easy walks to challenging hikes. The longest trail in the park is the Congo Nile Trail, which takes around 10 days to complete. However, for most visitors, the Igishigishigi Trail and the Canopy Walk are the most popular trails.

Highlights
The Igishigishigi Trail is a 2-hour hike that takes visitors through the park's dense forests and offers stunning views of Lake Kivu. The Canopy Walk is a 90-meter long suspension bridge that is suspended 60 meters above the forest floor. The Canopy Walk offers hikers a unique perspective of the park's flora and fauna.
