28 Persons Killed, Dozens Missing As Terrorists Attack Katsina Village
In a tragic incident, at least 28 people have been killed and dozens declared missing following a brutal attack by terrorists on Baure village in the Safana Local Government Area of Katsina State. The attack occurred last Tuesday, with local security officials reporting that the terrorists invaded the agrarian community, leading to widespread devastation.
According to a local security official who spoke on condition of anonymity, the terrorists stormed Baure village in large numbers, ransacking homes and shops. They killed 17 individuals on the spot and set ablaze the corpses of 11 others during the assault. “We tried to intervene but they overpowered us,” the official lamented, adding that over 20 people remain missing, with their fates unknown.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Aliyu, confirmed the incident, stating that 21 people were “fatally shot” during the attack. The police have since dispatched operatives to the scene to restore normalcy and are working alongside conventional security personnel to locate the missing individuals. The police statement emphasized that efforts are being made to apprehend the perpetrators of this heinous act.
The attack highlights the ongoing security challenges faced by Katsina State and the broader region, where communities continue to grapple with the threat of terrorism and banditry. The tragic loss of life and the ongoing search for the missing underscore the urgent need for enhanced security measures and community support to prevent such incidents in the future.
