3.3 per cent fewer German students studied abroad in the year of the Coronavirus pandemic, in 2020, newly published statistics by the Federal Statistical Office – Destatis, show.
According to the data, a total of 133,400 German students continued attending university abroad, with only 4,500 fewer than the previous year, in spite of the COVID-19 travel restrictions imposed worldwide at the time, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.
“The decline on 2019 was altogether moderate despite the pandemic related restrictions applying in the first COVID year of 2020,” the agency says in a statement published on February 3, revealing the new data.
