Types of stress
The specialist states that acute stress is short-term, which is brought about by specific events to which we must react. "It can be a helping, motivating force and can be thrilling in small doses (eustress), but too much of it is exhausting and makes us feel like we can't meet the challenges (distress). Acute stress can be when you get on the roller coaster, take an important exam, avoid a car accident, ask for a raise, etc.," explains the psychotherapist.
Chronic stress, on the other hand, is long-term suffering caused by repetitive stressors. "Chronic stress can become such a routine part of life that those who suffer from it no longer notice it and accept it as normal. Chronic stress factors can be: an exhausting job, an unhappy family life, prolonged financial problems, difficulties in adaptation and socialization, the effects of chronic stress, etc. If we do not intervene with different methods of relief or relaxation, chronic stress can lead to headaches, upset stomach, chest pain, high blood pressure, insomnia, anxiety, depression.
