However, despite its widespread adoption, it still lacks some essential features that would make it the perfect messaging app. Here are six features that WhatsApp needs to improve its functionality and user experience.
1. Larger Group Chat Sizes
WhatsApp's current group chat size limit of 1024 members is restrictive, especially for businesses or large organizations that need to send regular updates to their members. Increasing the group chat size limit to at least 200,000 people, similar to Telegram's group chats, would expand WhatsApp's usefulness beyond small groups and organizations.
2. The Option to Send Silent Messages
Not every message is urgent, and WhatsApp should have a silent mode that doesn't create notifications for the recipients. This feature would allow users to contribute to conversations at any time without waking up people who have not muted notifications.
3. Themes that Apply Throughout the App
WhatsApp's current theme options only apply to individual chats, and the app's UI elements remain unchanged. Applying a chat theme to WhatsApp should also apply that theme to all the app's UI elements, providing a consistent look and feel throughout the app.
4. Dedicated Cloud Storage for Backups
WhatsApp's current backup system relies on Google Drive or iCloud, which can be complicated and limited. A dedicated cloud storage system, like Telegram's, would allow users to instantly access their chats and media on every new device.
5. Remove Notifications of Deleted Messages
Deleting a message in WhatsApp creates unnecessary confusion by telling people when you've deleted a message. WhatsApp should remove any trace of the message existing at all, rather than replacing it with a notification.
6. No Limitations on Linked Devices
WhatsApp's current system allows users to access their messages from five devices at once, but linked devices have limited features compared to the primary device. Removing these limitations would allow users to have unlimited linked devices with the same features as the primary device.
