8-year-old killed by lightning strike in Dinajpur

An eight-year-old boy was killed in a lightning strike in Ghoraghat upazila of Dinajpur today.
The deceased was identified as Maruf Hasan, son of Lavlu Miah of Begunbaria village, our Dinajpur correspondent reports quoting Samsul Alam, a member of Bulakipur union.
Maruf lived at the house of maternal grandfather in the same village. His parents work at a garment factory in Dhaka, said Samsul Alam.
The UP member said Maruf sustained injuries after a thunderbolt struck him around 12 noon while he was harvesting brinjals from a field next to his maternal grandfather's house.
He was taken to Ghoraghat Upazila Health Complex where doctor declared him dead, added the UP member.
Dr Path Jwimoy Sarkar, a medical officer (in-charge) of Ghoraghat Upazila Health Complex, said the child was brought to the hospital this noon. But, he died before he reached the hospital. Read More...
