A brown bear cub is the new guest of the La Aurora Zoo
The La Aurora de Guatemala Zoo clan has once again expanded, as local authorities unveiled their latest addition on May 8th - a young brown bear born earlier this year, making it Polina's second daughter.
The cub, born on January 12th, weighed in at a healthy 1.86 kilograms and has progressed safely and normally under the watchful eye of its caretakers. Though the cub's moniker has yet to be determined, an official name will soon be selected.

Polina, the brown bear and zoo resident, welcomed her second daughter with open paws. Her first offspring, a male named Koda, was born in 2020 and resides in a separate enclosure within the zoo. The bear and her offspring's habitat has been custom-tailored to meet their nutritional and hibernation needs.
The new addition was introduced to the public during a Mother's Day celebration at the zoo, featuring various species of mothers and their young. The event also included a nutritional enrichment program.
La Aurora Zoo boasts an impressive menagerie of approximately 2,500 animals from 287 species, earning it the esteemed title of Guatemala and Central America's top zoo, as well as a spot on the list of America's 15 best zoos.
