Around 7:30 am on the 5th, around 500 dead fish were found around Bongmyeonggyo Bridge in Daga-dong, Dongnam-gu, Cheonan-si, Chungcheongnam-do, and the city of Cheonan started an investigation. According to Cheonan City, etc., a report was received that day that "dozens of fish have died in various places along the Cheonan Stream area."
At around 10:30 am, the city collected about 500 dead fish from the area between Cheonan Station and Bongmyeonggyo Bridge in Cheonancheon. It was found that there was a strong sewage odor near the river where the fish died.
The city estimated that the fish died due to a lack of dissolved oxygen (DO) as sewage and sewage from sewage pipes passing through the river flowed backwards due to rain the previous day. A city official said, "As a result of checking the amount of dissolved oxygen at the site, it was only 1.5 ppm, which is far less than the 7-10 ppm normally measured in clear river water." Read More…
