According to a report by Bloomberg, Instagram is gearing up to launch a rival platform to Twitter in the upcoming summer season
Instagram, the popular social media platform owned by Meta Platforms (formerly Facebook), is set to launch a new application that will rival Twitter, as per a report from Bloomberg.
The app, which primarily focuses on text-based content, is expected to be unveiled in the summer, potentially as early as June. Insider sources familiar with the matter revealed that Instagram is currently conducting tests with influencers and content creators to fine-tune the product.
When contacted for comment, Meta Platforms did not immediately respond to Reuters' request. In their efforts to gather feedback and generate interest, Meta has been reaching out to talent agencies and celebrities, inviting them to experience an early version of the app. This upcoming app will be seamlessly integrated with Instagram, offering a cohesive user experience.
According to Alex Heath, a reporter at the Verge, the new app will follow a decentralized approach and will be built upon the foundation of Instagram. However, it will also be compatible with other platforms like Mastodon, expanding its reach and functionality.
Lia Haberman, an expert in social and influencer marketing at UCLA in California, mentioned in her newsletter that the integration of various apps will enable a more versatile and interconnected user experience.
