Algarve Police Programme Extended To Lisbon And Porto
"We are making preparations to launch exclusive security and community policing initiatives for the first time in Lisbon, Porto, and the coastal areas that witness the highest influx of visitors. These endeavors are part of our comprehensive Urban Security Strategy and will be implemented based on the successful model of the 'Algarve Seguro' program," announced José Luís Carneiro in Vila Nova de Gaia, situated in the Porto district.
Addressing the Avintes Parish Council during the ceremony of signing an inter-administrative agreement for the renovation of the local GNR Territorial Post, the minister emphasized the Algarve security program as a commendable exemplar of collaboration among various security forces and services.
Henceforth, our objective is to extend this triumphant venture to other regions of the country, encompassing Greater Porto, and Greater Lisbon, as well as popular beaches that attract a substantial number of visitors. Specifically, we are focusing on areas where late afternoon gatherings often result in larger crowds. These situations sometimes necessitate special attention from the security forces due to particular behaviors and attitudes.
In response to inquiries about the timeline for implementing the program in these new regions, José Luís Carneiro expressed his aspiration to unveil the program by mid-June.
