Amazon might put its smart assistant in your MICROWAVE

Amazon is set to release as many as eight new devices, including a Microwave, with its smart assistant Alexa built-in, according to a report .
The microwave, said to be built by US firm GE, won't talk to you but it will connect to an Alexa smart speaker.
That means you'll be able to say "Alexa, cook me some popcorn and play a movie". Although you'll still have to get up and put the popcorn in the microwave first.
The benefit of connecting a microwave to Alexa could be access to recipes and customised cooking times design to match the oven you own. No more overcooked baked beans, perhaps?
Also on the list of things that will get Alexa support are a Garmin dash cam and some more traditional speakers, including a subwoofer and an amplifier.
Voice control for a dash cam would make sense, offering you the chance to ask it to record incidents on demand. Products that offer this do already exist, but Alexa might offer increased functionality.
Adding Alexa into speakers may be a move to compete directly with multiroom audio system Sonos which sells similar products. Sonos already supports Amazon Alexa in its components.
Selling a subwoofer certainly suggests that either a high-end music system is on the cards, or the company will try and win over home cinema enthusiasts with a surround sound system.
It's not clear if these music-focused products would be Amazon branded (as Echo devices) or if they would be made by third parties, with Alexa built-in.
Amazon is the market leader in smart speakers, with 61.9 per cent of the US market. Google is in second place with 26.9 per cent. The market is predicted to be worth £23 billion by 2024 .
Amazon is also offering car companies the option of integrating Alexa into vehicles. BMW cars produced recently support the voice assistant . Other firms like VW and Ford also support the Amazon voice assistant in some of their cars.
