Annual tertiary education enrolment numbers up 10%
An Education Ministry report said enrolments in August were 10 percent higher than August last year which had been 1.2 percent higher than in August 2019.
It said there were 345,910 New Zealanders studying tertiary courses in August, 34,940 more than at the same time in 2019.
The report said polytechnics' domestic enrolments had grown 19 percent since 2019, universities' nine percent and private providers' 12 percent, while wananga enrolments were about the same as before the pandemic.
It said there were 17,890 fewer foreign students, a drop of 33 percent, and one in five of the remaining 36,770 foreign students were studying remotely from overseas.
The ministry's report said the biggest areas of growth in tertiary education were in certificates and diplomas at levels 3-7.
Enrolments in masters degrees grew 23 percent, and enrolments by part-time students grew 18 percent compared with 6.4 percent for full-time students. Read More…
