Apple TV+ Sets October Launch Date for German Drama Series ‘Where’s Wanda?’
Apple TV+ has announced that its first German original drama series, Where’s Wanda?, will premiere globally on Wednesday, October 2. The series will debut with the first two episodes, with new episodes released every Wednesday until November 13.
Where’s Wanda? is a dark comedy that revolves around the desperate search of Dedo (played by Axel Stein) and Carlotta Klatt (played by Heike Makatsch) for their missing 17-year-old daughter, Wanda (Lea Drinda). Despite the police's inability to locate Wanda, who vanished months earlier, the family takes the investigation into their own hands. With the help of their tech-savvy son Ole (Leo Simon), they disguise themselves as employees of an electrical company to bug their neighborhood and beyond, discovering that their neighbors are not who they appear to be.
Cast and Crew
The series features an ensemble cast including: Heike Makatsch (Love Actually), Axel Stein (The Vault), Lea Drinda (The Gryphon), Leo Simon, Nikeata Thompson (How to Dad), Palina Rojinski (Welcome to Germany), Kostja Ullmann (My Blind Date with Life), Harriet Herbig-Matten, Devid Striesow (All Quiet on the Western Front), Jasmin Shakeri (The Magic Flute) and Joachim Król (The Most Desired Man).
The series is created, written, and executive produced by British writer Oliver Lansley (Flack). It is co-created and based on a story by Zoltan Spirandelli (Vaya con Dios) and directed by Christian Ditter (How to Be Single) and Tobi Baumann (Faking Hitler). Industry Impact
Where’s Wanda? is Apple's first German scripted series and its performance could influence the company's future commissioning decisions in Germany. The series has been eagerly awaited, with industry insiders expressing hope for its success. The show has been in post-production for a considerable time, and its reception could set a precedent for Apple TV+'s approach in the German market.
Additional Developments
In related news, Apple TV+ has acquired KRANK Berlin, a medical drama series starring Haley Louise Jones (Dear Child). This series was initially ordered by Sky Deutschland before it ceased original scripted commissions last year. The series subsequently found a new home with public broadcaster ZDF, which will air it on ZDFneo following a 12-month exclusivity period on Apple TV+.
With Where’s Wanda?, Apple TV+ continues to expand its global content portfolio, tapping into diverse markets and offering localized original series to its international audience.
