Argentina plans to connect 90% of school students by year-end
President Alberto Fernández announced that a plan is underway to connect schools around the country to the internet.
Fernández said during the start of sessions at the national congress that “in the next 90 days” some 2,700 schools will be connected with internet services.
The president did not specify any details of the project, however. A plan to connect schools had already previously been mentioned in January by Pablo Tognetti, former president of state-owned satellite company and telco Arsat.
Fernández said that another 10,000 schools will be connected during the course of this year, which will allow 3mn students to access internet services.
Added to the 5.2mn students who are already connected, Argentina will end 2022 with 90% of the students enrolled in the education system connected to the internet, according to the president.
He also announced plans for the construction of digital classrooms and the distribution of computers. “We're distributing 600,000 computers and we've tendered the purchase of one million [computers],” Fernández said.
This year will begin with the distribution of personal computers to primary school teachers and students.
The government also plans to build 3,000 digital classrooms for early-stage students this year, with another 7,000 to be constructed in 2023. Read More...
