Athens Taxi Drivers Call for 24-Hour Strike on February 19
The Athens Taxi Drivers Union (SATA) has announced a 24-hour strike for Wednesday, February 19, and is seeking support from the Panhellenic Federation and other taxi unions. The strike is driven by several key demands, including granting taxis access to bus lanes to improve efficiency, addressing competition from rental car services, and halting illegal discounts offered by ride-hailing companies like Uber and Bolt.
Additionally, SATA is pushing for the enforcement of taxi contract regulations, a 33% increase in the minimum contract price, and a delay in the mandatory transition to zero-emission vehicles for taxis until 2035. This strike highlights the ongoing challenges faced by taxi drivers in Athens as they advocate for fair competition and better working conditions.
