Austria calls on Serbia, Kosovo to resolve their disputes through dialogue
The president of Austria's National Council has called on Serbia and Kosovo to engage in dialogues to normalize their relationship and resolve their disputes. Wolfgang Sobotka made this remark after a meeting with Glauk Konjufca, the speaker of the Kosovo Parliament, in the capital city of Pristina.
Sobotka emphasized the need for a constructive dialogue that will enable both countries to take steps towards each other and towards resolving their current situation and disputes. He pledged to create an environment that will facilitate such discussions. Moreover, he stressed the importance of Serbia not hindering Kosovo's membership in international organizations.
In response, Konjufca expressed gratitude to Austria for its longstanding support and friendship towards Kosovo.
As part of his official visit, Sobotka is scheduled to meet with Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti before proceeding to Belgrade, the capital of Serbia.
The Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue, which was initiated by the European Union in 2011, aims to find a mutually acceptable solution to disputes under a legally binding agreement. The EU has made it a prerequisite for both Kosovo and Serbia to reach a final agreement and settle their disputes to progress towards their integration into the bloc.
Although the majority of United Nations member states, including the US, UK, France, Germany, and Türkiye, recognized Kosovo as a separate country after it declared independence from Serbia 15 years ago, Serbia continues to view it as part of its territory.
