Avelo Airlines, one of the youngest airlines in the United States, has been recognized as the country's most reliable airline in 2024 following an impressive operational performance in June. The airline achieved the best on-time performance in the US last month, marking a significant milestone in its short history.
Avelo Airlines, which has been in operation for just over three years, has quickly made a name for itself in the competitive airline industry. Despite its relatively small fleet of Boeing 737 aircraft, Avelo has successfully carried nearly five million passengers. The airline has strategically focused on routes that are not already serviced by other airlines, expanding its network to include 49 destinations.
Earlier today, Avelo announced that it had been named the most reliable airline in the US for the first half of the year. This recognition is based on data from Anuvu, which the Wall Street Journal uses to publish its annual airline rankings. In addition to having the best on-time performance in June and the lowest cancellation rate, Avelo was the best-performing airline overall in the first half of the year.
In June, 84.3% of Avelo's flights arrived on time (defined as arriving within 15 minutes of their scheduled arrival). In comparison, the second-highest airline had an on-time arrival rate of 78.62%, while the national average was 73.6%.
According to the airline's website, Avelo operates a fleet of 16 Boeing 737 Next Generation aircraft. Seven are of the -700 variant, and nine are of the -800 variant, capable of carrying 149 and 189 passengers, respectively. Both types are equipped with CFM56 engines.
Data from aviation analytics firm Cirium shows that Avelo has 1,746 roundtrip flights scheduled for this month, with a total seat offering of just over 297,000. The busiest route in Avelo's network is from Tweed New Haven Airport, where Avelo is the only airline providing scheduled commercial passenger service, to Orlando International Airport. Although this route does not operate daily, on the days it does, most have two roundtrips.
None of the routes in Avelo's network operate daily. The second-busiest route is from Hollywood-Burbank International Airport in Southern California to Santa Rosa Airport in Northern California. This route also has a variable schedule, with flights operating once on Sunday, twice on Monday, twice on Thursday, and once on Friday this week.
Avelo is not the only airline serving Santa Rosa, nor is it the only airline connecting Santa Rosa and Burbank. Alaska Airlines also operates five weekly flights on this route using Embraer E175 aircraft, which are configured with 76 seats.
