Bangladesh announces new captain for the one-off Test against Afghanistan
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced a 15-player lineup for the upcoming solitary Test match against Afghanistan, set to commence on June 14 at the renowned Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.
Litton Das, an opening batsman of great caliber, has been entrusted with the captaincy in the absence of the seasoned Shakib al Hasan, who is currently sidelined due to a finger injury. The Afghan team, presently engaged in an ODI series in Sri Lanka, is scheduled to arrive in Bangladesh on June 10.
Litton will lead a 15-member ensemble, which includes Shahadat Hossain and Musfik Hasan, two promising talents who have yet to make their international debut. Shahadat, a prominent figure in the victorious Bangladesh Under-19 World Cup team of 2020, has displayed exceptional skills in domestic tournaments. Exhibiting prowess as a middle-order batsman, he impressively registered two half-centuries in consecutive unofficial Test matches against West Indies A.
Similarly, the rise of fast bowler Musfik has been heralded by his outstanding performance in the 2022-23 National Cricket League, where he clinched 25 wickets at an impressive average of 15.92. Notably, he achieved a remarkable feat by taking 8 wickets for 73 runs against Dhaka Division, becoming only the third player in the history of domestic first-class cricket in Bangladesh to accomplish such a feat.
Moreover, Taskin Ahmed, who was previously sidelined from the Ireland Test due to a side strain, has made a triumphant return. Zakir Hasan, who missed the April Ireland Test due to a thumb injury after being selected for the ODI squad in March, will also rejoin the team. Consequently, Shadman Islam and Rejaur Rahman Raja will not be included in the squad.
