Black Caps appoints former all-rounder Jacob Oram as the new bowling coach
Jacob Oram, the former New Zealand all-rounder, has been appointed as the full-time bowling coach for the Black Caps, stepping into the role previously held by Shane Jurgensen, who left in November. Oram, 46, has already supported the team in a coaching capacity, including during the recent T20 World Cup.
Oram's coaching career began in 2014 with New Zealand A, and he later served as the White Ferns' bowling coach from 2018 to 2021. More recently, he was the head coach of the Central Hinds and worked with the Northern Warriors in the Abu Dhabi T10 league and Mumbai Indians Cape Town in the SA20.
Reflecting on his appointment, Oram said, "I’m really excited to have the opportunity to be involved with the Black Caps again. To be back involved with a team that means so much to me, and has been a big part of my life, is a real honour." He emphasized his eagerness to continue contributing to the team's progress in the coming seasons.
During his 11-year playing career, Oram represented New Zealand in 33 Tests, 160 ODIs, and 36 T20s, participating in three ODI World Cups and four T20 World Cups. Known for his right-arm medium pace and ability to generate bounce due to his tall stature, Oram was also a powerful left-handed batsman.
In his new role, Oram will focus on mentoring and developing New Zealand's emerging bowlers, including talents like Wellington’s Ben Sears and Canterbury’s Will O’Rourke, helping to shape the next generation of Black Caps bowlers.
