Branco Mello to Undergo Surgery for New Tumor
Branco Mello, the renowned musician from Titãs, announced on his social media that he will be undergoing surgery to remove an early-stage tumor found in one of his tonsils. The discovery was made during a routine examination, as stated in his announcement on Tuesday morning.
Mello, known for his contributions to Titãs as a musician, singer, and composer for over 40 years, has been grappling with recurring tumors in the throat area. Initially diagnosed in 2020, Mello underwent radiation and chemotherapy, successfully eliminating the tumor at that time. However, the battle continued in 2021 when the tumor reappeared, necessitating surgery to remove his larynx, which subsequently affected his left vocal cord.
In 2022, another tumor emerged at the base of his tongue, leading to yet another surgery. This procedure resulted in a serious hemorrhage, leaving Mello in critical condition in the ICU. Despite these significant health challenges and the subsequent surgeries and tracheostomy, Mello managed to overcome doubts about his ability to sing again. With the assistance of speech therapists, he adapted by using different parts of his voice, earning applause during the Encontro tour, where he reunited with the original members of Titãs between 2023 and 2024.
Mello will be taking an indefinite break from performing to focus on his health. During his absence, musician Caio Góes will be stepping in to fill his role in the band.
