Building a Network Bridge Over the Digital Divide in Liberia

Orange Liberia, in collaboration with ZTE Corporation, has successfully established new network infrastructure that promises to transform the lives of residents in rural Liberia. This initiative aims to bridge the digital divide by improving access to essential services such as education, healthcare, and digital communications for approximately 580,000 residents.

The project has seen the deployment of 128 communication sites across rural Liberia, completed in an impressive timeframe of just three months. These sites utilize advanced technology, including low-power-consumption and wide-coverage wireless base station equipment operating on the 800MHz and 900MHz bands. This infrastructure not only provides 2G voice services but also supports 4G data services, significantly enhancing the digital landscape in these regions.

A key feature of this initiative is its commitment to sustainability. Each communication site is equipped with solar energy systems and smart lithium batteries, ensuring that the network operates efficiently while minimizing its environmental impact. The integration of PowerPilot AI energy-saving software further enhances energy efficiency, making the network more sustainable and reliable.

To address the challenges of transmission in rural areas, the project employs flexible solutions, including microwave, satellite, and 4G relay technology. This adaptability is crucial in ensuring that even the most remote communities can access reliable communication services.

The impact of this initiative on rural communities is profound. With improved digital, financial, and energy inclusion, the enhanced network access is expected to play a vital role in the economic and social development of these regions. Residents will benefit from better access to educational resources, healthcare services, and digital platforms that can facilitate economic opportunities.

Jean Marius YAO, the CEO of Orange Liberia, has emphasized the company's commitment to improving communication services throughout the country. He views the collaboration with ZTE as a crucial step in advancing Liberia's telecommunications sector, particularly in areas that have historically been neglected.

The partnership between Orange Liberia and ZTE represents a significant advancement in building network infrastructure in rural Liberia. By enhancing connectivity, this initiative not only improves communication services but also supports broader economic and social development goals in the region. The focus on energy efficiency and sustainable practices further underscores the commitment to creating a resilient telecommunications framework for the future, ultimately helping to bridge the digital divide in Liberia.
