Canon U.S.A., Inc. and Osaro to Showcase a Robotic Bagging Solution That Uses Canon’s Force-Torque Sensors at the International Manufacturing Technology Show
Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, and OSARO Inc., a San Francisco-based company specializing in AI-based robotic perception and picking solutions, are set to showcase a collaborative robotic bagging solution at the International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS) in Chicago from September 9-14. The solution will be featured at booth No. 134040 in the East Hall.
The highlight of the demonstration is the OSARO® Robotic Bagging System, which utilizes Canon’s advanced force-torque sensors. These sensors, based on optical encoders, are durable, thin, lightweight, and offer high precision. They measure the magnitude and direction of load along three axes and rotational forces, allowing robotic arms to handle objects with the appropriate strength.
Canon's force sensors are fully digital, providing low noise and high accuracy, and they can be easily integrated into various automation tasks, reducing the need for manual labor. The sensors' non-contact structure makes them less prone to damage compared to older analog methods.
Kenichi Kaneda, Senior Director and GM of Canon's Industrial Products Division, expressed satisfaction with the collaboration, emphasizing the importance of durability, low cost, and precision in industrial applications.
The OSARO Robotic Bagging System is designed to enhance order fulfillment by automating SKU bagging with sophisticated pick-and-place software. This system, powered by OSARO’s AI and machine-learning algorithms, offers flexibility by allowing the automatic addition of thousands of new SKUs without downtime. It also features dynamic object detection and real-time adaptation to changing inventory, ensuring efficient and accurate order processing.
Brent Barcey, SVP of Corporate Development at OSARO, praised the partnership with Canon, highlighting how Canon’s sensors, combined with OSARO's self-learning perception intelligence, can support the growth of e-commerce and fulfillment operations globally.
