She explained, in a statement to TAP, on the occasion of World Heart Day, corresponding to September 29 each year, that among cardiovascular diseases is myocardial infarction, which occurs when a plaque comes off , then moves and comes to rest in a coronary artery. A blood clot forms around the plaque and cuts off the blood supply, depriving the heart of oxygen. This leads to the destruction of a more or less extensive part of the heart muscle.
She said that 70% of people who suffer a heart attack in Tunisia are smokers, 40% suffer from high blood pressure and 35% have diabetes.
She called not to ignore the warning signs of a heart attack and to call the emergency medical aid service (SAMU) in the event of persistent chest pain.
