Celia Cruz's dress will be at the Salsa Museum in Cali
Celia Cruz left an important legacy for tropical music in America, the world and of course in Colombia. In Cali, capital of salsa, this heritage continues to expand thanks to a piece by the renowned Cuban singer that will now be in a city museum.
A Celia Cruz dress was donated by Omar Pardillo , who was the artist's representative, to the Cali Salsa Museum.
The important piece that was once used by Celia Cruz to adorn stages around the world with her voice, will be officially presented on September 9 at 6:00 p.m. by Carlos Molina Jr., current director of the Salsa Museum.
Three years of conversations for the piece to arrive in Cali
The dress that Omer Pardillo donated through the Celia Cruz Foundation, arrived in the capital of Valle del Cauca after three years of talks between both organizations dedicated to rescuing and promoting culture.
The director of the Salsa Museum in Cali assured that the close relationship that his father had with the Cuban singer facilitated the deal so that the important piece reached the Valle del Cauca capital. Likewise, he highlighted that the pandemic and other situations in Colombia caused delays in the arrival of the dress of 'La Guarachera de Cuba' in the city.
“My father was a personal friend of Celia Cruz and because of the affinity that the museum has, the relationship was facilitated. The pandemic, unemployment and other obstacles had not allowed us to bring the dress but it is already here”, said the director of the Salsa Museum.
For Molina, having Celia Cruz's dress in Cali allows the city to gain even more international recognition. In addition, she highlighted the importance of the cultural exchange that this means.
“With this, the city gains cultural exchange, recognition of what Cali is and what it gave to Celia. She is the most important female representative of Latin music and not only for salsa but also for rhythms that are in Latin America," said Carlos Molina Jr.
