Centre gains as Finns Party and National Coalition lose support
A recent opinion poll conducted by Verian for Helsingin Sanomat reveals that the approval ratings of Finland's three largest parties have remained largely unchanged over the past month. However, there are some notable shifts in popular support among the parties.
The Social Democratic Party has taken sole control of the top spot, with popular support increasing by 0.9 percentage points to 20.9%. The National Coalition and Finns Party, both members of the ruling four-party coalition, have seen a drop in popular support, with the National Coalition falling to 20.2% and the Finns Party to 15.0%.
The Centre Party has made significant gains, surging 1.1 points to 12.9%, its highest reading in over two years. Chairperson Antti Kaikkonen attributes this increase to the party being regarded more favourably by the public, but cautions against reading too much into the results.
The Left Alliance saw a slight increase in popularity, rising 0.1 points to 10.1%. The Green League and Swedish People's Party both experienced a decline in support, falling to 8.0% and 4.3%, respectively. The Christian Democratic Party made the second-largest gains, climbing from 3.8 to 4.2%. Support for Movement Now remained unchanged at 2.2%.
The poll, which interviewed 2,542 people between July 15 and August 16, has a margin of error of 2.0 percentage points.
