Ecuador will supply Colombia with 104,000 tons of rice during 2022, as announced this Wednesday (March 30, 2022) by the Ministers of Agriculture of both countries during a meeting held within the framework of the thirty-seventh FAO conference for Latin America and the Caribbean. , which is celebrated in Quito.
Rice exports from Ecuador to Colombia will be divided into a first campaign of 62,000 tons that will begin in April and end in June, and a second with 42,000 tons, which will take place between November and December.
The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of Colombia, Rodolfo Zea, explained that rice imports from Ecuador will not interfere with Colombian national production, since this is focused on the second half of the year and not so much on the first.
For his part, the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock of Ecuador , Pedro Álava, affirmed that this agreement reached with Colombia will allow "alleviating the pressure that the rice sector (of Ecuador ) has and will help improve prices."
