Congress approves reconsideration of early elections for 2023
President of the Constitution Commission announced that they will make changes to the text for which he requested to go to the Board of Spokespersons. Here details.
With 66 votes in favor, 49 against, and 6 abstentions, Congress approved the reconsideration with which the replacement text will be debated and voted on so that the elections can be brought forward this year, specifically in October.
After that, the president of the Constitution Commission announced that changes will be made to the proposal with other benches, for which he asked to go to the Board of Spokesmen, before which he has gone to a fourth intermission.
After the changes, this new text is projected to be debated and voted on by Congress, which is expected to be in today's session.
The day before, the President of the Republic, Dina Boluarte, announced that the Executive will present two bills as a matter of urgency, in case Congress does not reach a consensus to advance the general elections to 2023.
During a message to the Nation, the Head of State indicated that in the first initiative it will be proposed that the elections be held in October of this year.
" If the consensus in Congress does not prosper to discuss the advancement of elections to 2023, the Executive will immediately be presenting two legislative initiatives as a matter of urgency ," reported Boluarte Zegarra. Read More…
