Denied protection action against amnesties of the Assembly
The court decision was applied against the appeal filed by political activist Andrés Páez on March 12, 2022.
Judge Lucía Soria decided that the protection action request filed by the political activist Andrés Páez against the amnesties approved by the Assembly was not the ideal legal path .
Páez had submitted the request for protection action on March 12 in the Judicial Unit of the Family of Women, Children and Adolescents of Quitumbe.
In a statement from the Legislature it is highlighted that authorities from the Assembly, the Attorney General's Office and the people who defended the action of the Plenary were present at the hearing.
On the morning of March 29, Alexandra Vela , former Minister of Government , filed a lawsuit of unconstitutionality against the same amnesties before the Constitutional Court (CC).
This is the second lawsuit filed with the CC due to the decision of the Plenary, which annulled the investigations and legal proceedings of environmental and human rights activists and those who caused excesses and destruction during the October 2019 protests. Read More...
