Diego Elías is number two in the squash world ranking: What's next for the Peruvian athlete?
After becoming champion of the Pittsburgh Open in the United States, the national squash player is getting ready to participate in his next tournament.
Diego Elías successfully started the 2023 season. The Peruvian won three consecutive tournaments: JP Morgan Tournament of Champions, Motor City Open and Pittsburgh Open, which allowed him to rise in the ranking and was distinguished by the Professional Squash Association (PSA) : "With the permission of Mostafa Asal (No. 1 in the world ranking) and Ali Farag (former No. 2), Diego Elías is currently the best in the world."
The Peruvian athlete has managed to rise to number two in the world ranking , leaving Peru's name high in each country he visits to compete on the PSA World Tour. Diego Elías participated for the first time and lifted his first title in 2013, after which he ended up becoming the first Peruvian to achieve it and now, he is not only recognized nationally, he is also one of the best South Americans in the history of the world squash.

Diego Elías will soon participate in the Black Ball Squash Open tournament in Cairo, Egypt. The competition is considered in the Gold category, which is why it gives 1,750 points to the winner, 1,150 points to second place, 700 points to third and fourth; 430 from fifth to eighth and 260 from ninth to sixteenth. The Egyptian Mostafa Asal , number 1 in the ranking, has 16,720 points and the Peruvian, Diego Elías, has 16,210 points .
