New series of the highly favored and long-running British television show “Doctor Who”.
Stage and display virtuoso, Jonathan Groff, has begun the filming of his ambiguous key role in the new series of the highly favored and long-running British television show "Doctor Who." Alongside him, Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson have also been revealed as cast members by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).
The widely renowned and popular show, "Doctor Who," which first premiered in 1963, follows the escapades of an extra-terrestrial being known as The Doctor, who bears a human-like appearance. He voyages through the universe in a time-traveling vessel called the Tardis.
In this latest installment of the show, the iconic "Glee" actor, Jonathan Groff, has landed a substantial role, although the nature of his role is yet to be unveiled by the BBC. Groff's onscreen success has been eminent, with significant roles in major box office hits like "Knock at the Cabin," directed by M. Night Shyamalan, and his standout portrayal of Holden Ford in the critically acclaimed series "Mindhunter," directed by David Fincher. The actor also recently lent his voice to the new Agent Smith in "The Matrix Resurrections," in addition to his role in the popular Frozen franchise.
Furthermore, Groff's performance on Broadway in the musical "Hamilton" as King George III earned him Tony and Primetime Emmy nominations for the live stage recording.
In November, the series will be returning with three special episodes to mark its 60th anniversary, with David Tennant reprising his role as the 14th Doctor. However, the new 15th Doctor, portrayed by Ncuti Gatwa, is set to take control of the Tardis following Tennant's departure.
The new season will also include additional cast members, including the winner of the fifth season of "RuPaul's Drag Race," Jinkx Monsoon. When asked about his involvement in the show, Groff expressed his excitement, stating: "I am so thrilled to jump into the extraordinary mind of Russell T Davies and watch the incredible Ncuti Gatwa soar in this iconic role."
Showrunner Russell T Davies echoed Groff's excitement, saying: "This is an incredible coup, and a great honour, to get such a huge star striding on to our set. So strap on your space boots, this is going to be a blast." For audiences in the United Kingdom and Ireland, the show will premiere exclusively on the BBC, while new seasons of "Doctor Who" will be available exclusively on Disney+ outside of these regions.
