Drinking alcohol before menopause can speed up menopausal symptoms
Premenopausal middle-aged women may experience menopausal symptoms more quickly, such as hot flushes with reddened faces and night sweats when they sleep, a study has found.
Kangbuk Samsung Hospital Data Management Center Professor Ryu Seung-ho and Jang Yu-soo's research team followed and analyzed 2,394 premenopausal women aged 42 to 52 who visited the comprehensive checkup center between 2014 and 2018 to confirm the relationship between alcohol consumption and menopausal symptoms. .
According to their drinking habits, the research team classified them as lifelong abstainers, past drinkers, and drinkers of less than 10g to 40g or more per day. A daily alcohol intake of 10g is equivalent to drinking 25% alcohol content in one regular-sized soju glass. Afterwards, they measured whether they had experienced vasomotor symptoms, such as hot flashes or night sweats, through a survey.
As a result, the risk of developing moderate vasomotor symptoms or developing prematurely was significantly increased as the amount of alcohol consumed more than that of those who did not drink for the rest of their lives.
