Education Commission says yes to two new faculties at the University of Lucerne
The University of Lucerne is planning to expand its range of courses. On the one hand, the creation of a faculty for behavioral sciences and psychology is planned, on the other hand, the existing department for health sciences and medicine is to be upgraded to a faculty.
The cantonal commission for education, training and culture (EBKK) supports the necessary change in the university law “with a clear majority”, as it reports. The 13-member committee chaired by Rahel Estermann (Lucerne, Greens) welcomes the strategic and content-related further development of the university. Specialists would be trained for which there was “great demand” in the labor market and especially in the healthcare sector.
In the case of the psychology faculty , however, this is controversial . Education politicians from the FDP and SVP criticize that the new faculty does not help to combat the shortage of skilled workers.
The university would finance the expansion itself
