Education Crisis Raises Alarm in Ruaraka

An education crisis is blowing out of proportion in Ruaraka Constituency with more than six hundred and twenty students yet to join Form One whilst their counterparts reported on Monday the 6th of February.
Most of these students come from very humble backgrounds and mainly dwell in the informal settlements.
A section of leaders from the Constituency have raised concern and called for an immediate action to address the issue. Led by Dr. Boaz Kiprop Cheluget, the leaders decried the few number of Public schools in the Constituency which is highly populated.
“In Ruaraka we have a population of 250,000 and out of that 120,000 pupils attend primary school. We only have seven public schools in all five wards of the Constituency.”
Dr. Boaz notes that a majority of the needy students are boys.
“Boys constitute 64% while girls are 36%. Most of these students performed exemplary well with some achieving 350 marks and above. This is a worrying trend because we risk having the boys being taken advantage of by some politicians.
We are therefore appealing for support to make sure that no child misses school. Their parents live from hand to mouth through casual labour which doesn’t even sustain their basic needs.
The schools where they studied are equally disadvantaged for being labelled as private schools yet they are missionary run schools that depend on well wishers and donors for their upkeep.” Read More…
