Employers recognize debts with the IGSS for Q236 million and make first payments, in cash or by agreement, for Q90 million
During the first three months of a six-month period for thousands of employers to catch up with their contributions, without surcharges for late payment, 7,375 employers regularized their debts with the Guatemalan Social Security Institute (IGSS) and of these, 7 thousand 285 (98.78%) correspond to the private sector; 78 (1.06%) to the municipal sector while 12 (0.16%) to decentralized entities.
As a collateral result, 101,560 members recovered the coverage provided by the institution.
The measure is valid for six months from March 27, 2022, but for three months (from that date until June 26) it granted the possibility of exoneration of 100% of the charges.
The agreement does not exempt from the payment of labor and employer contributions, but only surcharges for late payment, procedural costs, legal interest, administrative expenses and compensatory interest, according to information from the Guatemalan Social Security Institute (IGSS).
Before this provision came into force, the IGSS reported that 17,855 employers had an irregular situation regarding non-payment of contributions, a figure that represented around 157,000 workers who could not receive social security benefits.
Outreach and fundraising
The results of the first three months have a scope of Q236 million 215 thousand 656, which includes both the payment modalities in cash, as well as the debt recognition subscription, the IGSS indicated to Prensa Libre.
Of these, 6,852 employers made cash payments and 523 paid some periods, apart from signing payment agreements with the Institute.
It is anticipated that during the remaining months of the exoneration of surcharges for late payment, the projected goal of Q728.5 million collected will be reached.
From June 27 to August 26, you can choose to pay with 90% exemption from surcharges , and from August 27 to September 26, with 80% exemption. For the employer who made a payment agreement to maintain the benefit of the exemption, he must comply in a timely manner, it was clarified. Read More...
