Korean lovers learn this through K-dramas. Watching the Korean culture, imagining how tasty their delicacies are, their fashion, skincare routine, music and even their infrastructures, makes one want to visit South Korea. Many people go as far as learning their language and greeting, to blend when they visit, while some hope to fall in love with a man or woman from Korea.
CITIES AND VILLAGES
The exotic land of South Korea calls on travellers to experience the beauty of its cities, folk villages, islands and natural seascapes. There is a list of amazing places apart from SEOUL you should visit, solo or with company.
Jeju Island: Jeju Island is known for being one of the most beautiful places in South Korea. The pristine nature of Jeju Island was voted as one of the New Seven Wonders of Nature and it lives up to its name as it will take your breath away with its Dreamlike White sand beaches surrounded by pine forests, beautiful botanical gardens, volcanic craters and lava caves.
Busan: This city became popular among non-Koreans when they found out that Jimin and Jungkook of the popular Korean boy band, BTS, are indigenes. This is the second-largest city in South Korea and is known across the world for hosting Asia’s largest international film festival- the Busan International Film festival. Busan is popular for its Skyscrapers, beaches, majestic mountains and outstanding Buddhist temples. Do not leave without seeing the Haedong Yonggunsa temple and Jagalchi fish market.
Pyeongchang County: The tranquillity and picturesque beauty make it one of the best places to visit. The Odaesan National park is a hiker’s delight, with trails going up and down the snow-peaked mountains while the Alpensia and Yongpyong ski resorts are popular among skiers and snowboarders.
Andong Hahoe Folk Village: This traditional Korean village is a UNESCO WORLD Heritage site. Andong Hahoe, meaning, “the village enveloped by water”, is like travelling back in time, with its display of local traditions and culture. The beautiful setting is highlighted by the thatched-roof houses and rural tiles, sandy beaches and pine trees, local Korean dishes and mask dance performances.
FOOD
South Korean food varies with each season. In Spring, seasonal spring greens are enjoyed. During summer, cold foods or high protein dishes are eaten to replenish one’s energy. In harvest season, a great variety of foods is enjoyed and in winter, high nutrition fermented foods are preferred. A fan of K-dramas will be familiar with some delicacies like:
