‘Farmer’s Bride' becomes second highest-grossing movie this weekend
Farmer’s Bride has made an impressive debut, earning ₦37.1 million during its opening weekend, making it the second highest-grossing movie of the weekend. Additionally, it has set a record for being the highest-grossing Nollywood opening for an 18-rated film in 2024 and the fourth highest Nollywood opening weekend overall for the year.
Distributed by Filmone Entertainment, the movie was praised in a social media post by the distributors, thanking audiences for its success and encouraging those who haven’t yet seen it to get tickets. "Farmer’s Bride" hit cinemas nationwide on September 27, 2024.
The film, set in 1980s Ibadan, tells the story of Odun, a wealthy but lonely farmer who marries a young bride named Funmi. Their marriage faces struggles as Funmi engages in a forbidden affair with Odun’s nephew, leading to a dramatic and supernatural tale of love and betrayal.
The film features a star-studded cast, including Tobi Bakre, Gbubemi Ejeye, Femi Branch, Mercy Aigbe, Efe Irele, and Wumi Toriola.
