Femme Fest 2023: Africa’s Biggest Celebration Of Women
In 2021, FEMME FEST had their very first event at Amore Gardens, Lekki, and the girls came out and showed up to celebrate the hottest female talents in Nigeria. Back then, FEMME FEST was simply an answer to the question: Why isn’t there a space for more young, amazing women to support female-owned businesses, have fun and listen to female artists that have otherwise been sidelined in mainstream media?
It was a time where women were fed up with the low representation and visibility of women in the creative scene. They saw how female voices, needs and wants were routinely pushed to the side and ranked low in importance. There was a desperate need for a change, and so FEMME FEST was created.
For FEMME FEST, existing in the fringes simply won’t do and they’ve made it their mission to lead the charge in achieving a more equitable landscape that prioritises female empowerment. At FEMME FEST in 2021, the collective power of support and what happens when people show up for the causes they care about was apparent. There were lots of shopping in the female vendor village, the most stylish festival attendees in Lagos (listen, lewks were served) and some serious dance moves as attendees vibed to headlining acts like Ayra Starr, Teni Entertainer and Lady Donli. A good time was had and this year, FEMME FEST is doing it even bigger.
