Film screening marks start of Tunisian Cultural Fest
The activities of the Tunisian Festival at Katara-the Cultural Village began Wednesday afternoon with the first screening of the film 'Ghadwa' (Tomorrow), which was attended by a large number of Tunisian expatriates in Qatar along with other Arab communities. Katara General Manager Prof Khalid bin Ibrahim al-Sulaiti will officially inaugurate the cultural festival Thursday. It runs until March 20. Besides the film screening, it will feature a musical evening, exhibitions, a literary event, a fashion show, etc. From Thursday until March 19, the highlights include an evening of Tunisian Malouf music, a fine arts exhibition, a handicrafts exhibition, and a poetry recital session to be held at the Creativity Square. The festival will conclude on March 20 with a Tunisian fashion show, along with a school choir performance. The closing ceremony will be held at the Katara Opera House. Meanwhile, a panel discussion on 'Ghadwa' has been postponed until Thursday due to the late arrival of Dhafer L’Abidine, the star, director and scriptwriter of the film. He will be present at the opening of the festival at 4pm Thursday. The film narrates the story of Habib, a lawyer specialising in human rights, who was hopeful about the first spark of the January 14, 2011, revolution. He also had a role in its outbreak, through his defence of rights, freedom and his demand for transitional justice, Katara said in a press statement. The film was screened for the first time at the Opera Theatre in Culture City, Tunis, a month ago, and it won an award in the 43rd edition of the Cairo Film Festival. Read More…
