Four technological trends that will mark 2023
Technological innovation often takes place behind the scenes until an event—a data breach, a cloud crash, a social movement—brings it to the headlines. Getting ahead of that cycle is difficult. To stay ahead of the competition, you have to invest in the right technology at the right time. That's the motivation for my annual tech predictions, and here are the trends I see for the year ahead.
Trend #1: New dimension of the attack surface
Demand for digital products and services is booming, making businesses an even bigger cyber target. We are hearing more and more about phishing schemes, ransomware, and poorly managed defenses. In 2023, we will hear much more about how the race to compete is exposing application infrastructure and shadow IT projects.
Application Security and APIs — Developers will be better supported by tools to accelerate the creation, security and management of modern and intuitive applications for exceptional digital experiences.
Quantum Cryptography — As we prepare for a quantum world, strong encryption with Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) will begin to spread widely with upgrades to data centers, self-driving cars, and consumer devices like phones.
Trend #2: Experience Economy and Entrepreneurial Vision
With the increase in online interactions between businesses and customers, success is increasingly tied to digital experiences. In fact, customer and user "experience" will be one of the most important new KPIs in 2023 as it tries to guide companies to better business outcomes in the digital economy.
Full-Stack Visibility and Business Results — A major monitoring problem has always been too much data with too little business context. By 2023, correlating application monitoring and visibility with business results will be a leading solution.
Traces and OpenTelemetry —OpenTelemetry will become the leading open source standard for data observability, and distributed tracing will be critical in evaluating the complete end-to-end experience of applications.
Edge Native App Development Frameworks: — We will see increasing adoption of Edge App Development Frameworks packed with new security, compliance, and data management APIs, along with new AI/ML toolchains.
Trend #3: Next Phase of Connectivity and Smart Grids
Connectivity and smart grids promise to help organizations anticipate and respond to global trade challenges, workforce changes, and other unexpected events. Next year we will see the launch of game-changing networking and connectivity solutions: a sign of the wonders of the future, Read More…
