French President Emmanuel Macron is scheduled to hold a meeting with Sam Altman, the renowned Silicon Valley entrepreneur associated with ChatGPT developed by OpenAI. The primary focus of their discussion, set to take place at Elysee, will revolve around the role of France and Europe in the worldwide race concerning artificial intelligence (AI), according to the President's office.
Sam Altman, serving as the CEO of OpenAI, is highly regarded in the tech industry for his advocacy in favor of governments promptly establishing comprehensive regulations to ensure responsible usage of AI. Macron, known for his staunch support of France as a "startup nation," has assigned his government the task of providing favorable investment conditions for technological entrepreneurs across various sectors, ranging from electric vehicle batteries to cryptocurrencies.
During the meeting, Altman and Macron will delve into OpenAI's future endeavors, while also addressing the crucial matter of regulatory measures needed at both the European and international levels. The objective is to strike a balance between fostering innovation and tackling ethical and democratic concerns associated with AI, as stated by Macron's office.
Altman's visit to Europe coincides with his recent testimony before the United States Congress, where he expressed concerns about the potential risks associated with artificial intelligence, stating that things could "go quite wrong."
