Fuel prices in Slovakia witnessed a surge in recent times, as observed at gas stations across the country
The cost of Gasoline Natural 95 reached its highest point since mid-April this year, while diesel prices reached their peak since the end of April. However, when compared to the prices from the previous year, these fuels have actually become more affordable. These findings are based on the latest data provided by the Statistical Office.
The widely-used Gasoline Natural 95 experienced a price hike of 1.53 percent last week, averaging at around 1.589 euros (equivalent to 37.64 crowns) per liter. Over the span of two weeks, its price escalated by a total of more than four percent. Nonetheless, in a year-on-year analysis, this type of gasoline turned out to be 13 percent cheaper.
On the other hand, the average price of diesel at gas stations in Slovakia rose by 0.42 percent compared to the previous week, settling at 1.429 euros per liter. When compared to the same period last year, diesel prices saw a substantial drop of 18.9 percent.
The notable increase in fuel prices in Slovakia can be attributed to the Russian military invasion of Ukraine that occurred in late February. Fuel prices reached their peak at Slovak gas stations during the transition from June to July, with an average cost of EUR 1.946 per liter for both Gasoline Natural 95 and diesel.
