Future of UK’s first permanent immersive art gallery at risk
The future of the UK’s first permanent immersive digital art gallery, The Reel Store in Coventry, is in jeopardy after the organisation that runs it went into administration.
Coventry City of Culture Trust, which oversaw the delivery of Coventry’s City of Culture festival in 2021 and had been running a three-year legacy programme, has appointed administrators after being unable to find a solution to secure its future.
The Reel Store has attracted thousands of visitors to its immersive exhibitions since opening last May. Located in the former home of the Coventry Evening Telegraph newspaper, its main exhibition space housed an 800sq m fixed projection mapping canvas with 14 4K laser projectors – including Barco G100-W22 projectors with lenses – and a spatially adaptive sound system.
The gallery’s first major exhibition was Refik Anadol’s Machine Memoirs: Space, which used AI to reimagine two million publicly available images of space taken by NASA satellites and telescopes, and the International Space Station. Read More..
