Galaxy Note 9: Release date, price, specs and rumours about Samsung's next phablet
It’s been just two weeks since Samsung unveiled its Galaxy S9 flagship smartphone, yet rumours are already swirling about its next Galaxy Note 9 device.
From an all-glass front display to an under-glass fingerprint scanner, the Galaxy Note 9 is rumoured to have a range of impressive features that were surprisingly absent in the S9.
Rumoured to be developed under the codename ‘Crown’, the Galaxy Note 9 is expected to be unveiled in August this year.
Here’s everything we know so far about Samsung’s upcoming smartphone so far.
Release date
While Samsung used to release its Galaxy Note devices at the IFA conference, in recent years the firm has avoided the conference in favour of its own event in August.
Last year, Samsung launched the Note 8 on 23 August before it went on sale on 15 September.
It is likely, although not confirmed, that the Note 9 will launch around a similar time this year.
Price
There are yet to be many rumours on how much the Galaxy Note 9 will cost.
However, the Note 8 costs £869, so it is likely that the Note 9 will be priced similarly.
Key features
Several impressive features have been rumoured for the Note 9, including a truly all-glass front design.
A fingerprint scanner is expected to be embedded within the display alongside a front-facing camera and sensors.
Not everyone, however, is convinced that this technology will be ready at launch.
According to 9to5 Google , Ming-Chi Kuo, a reputable source at KGI Securities, said that it is ‘likely’ Samsung will remove under-display fingerprint technology from the Note 9 due to “technological difficulties.”
Another leaker, Benjamin Geskin, suggests that the Note 9 will feature a 6.4-inch 4K display.
Like the S9, the Note 9 is also likely to feature Intelligent Scan - Samsung’s facial recognition technology similar to Apple’s FaceID.
According to Tech Advisor , the Note 9 is also tipped to use a new type of metal alloy, called Metal 12, that is tough yet light.
