Gayeshwar Chandra Roy says BNP will remain vigilant during Durga Puja Festival
BNP Standing Committee Member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy emphasized on Sunday that any conspiracies to incite unrest during the upcoming Durga Puja would be thwarted, ensuring stability throughout the festival. Speaking to the media, Gayeshwar highlighted the vigilance of BNP leaders and activists in maintaining order, adding that they would be on alert to prevent any disruptive activities.
The BNP leader referenced unspecified incidents and rumors, suggesting that forces linked to the regime ousted during the July-August Anti-Discrimination Movement might attempt to create disturbances. He hinted that supporters of this regime could potentially sabotage the Hindu festival.
Addressing the media after paying tribute to BNP founder and former president Ziaur Rahman at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in Dhaka, Gayeshwar assured that BNP leaders, following directives from Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, would take charge of security at puja mandaps. He warned that any failure to maintain stability during Durga Puja in respective areas would result in strict party action against those responsible.
He also called for the withdrawal of false cases against Tarique Rahman and other BNP members, stressing that such actions were necessary to preserve the democratic process in Bangladesh. Gayeshwar urged for unity among like-minded political parties to restore democracy through free and fair elections.
In the same vein, BNP Standing Committee Member Major (retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed proposed compulsory military training for youths aged 18, citing examples from other countries. He made the statement at a discussion organized by Jatiyatabadi Muktijoddha Dal in Dhaka, calling for national readiness and addressing conspiracies related to the hill tracts.
Both leaders reiterated BNP's long-standing commitment to the anti-Sheikh Hasina movement, which has been ongoing for 17 years, and expressed confidence in the party's role in ensuring a democratic transition in Bangladesh.
