Popular Gengetone group Matata have dropped their debut album – Super Morio. This album follows successful singles such as Mare Mare, Gengetone Love, Kata Kata, and even a joint EP with Sol Generation Unaware.
‘Super Morio’ is a Kenyan slang for ‘ghetto superhero.’ The word ‘morio’ means an ordinary youth from the hardship areas (ghetto). In this case, ‘super morio’ is in reference to the hero from the ghetto. The collection is a true embodiment of Matata’s authentic Kenyan origin in which they flaunt their witty lines, catchy hooks, storytelling, and fire dance moves.

This album is undoubtedly one of the most solid collections ever released by a Kenyan artist. Its intro is a memorable tune that is a special collaboration with their mothers. “This is a dream come true; we never imagined one day featuring our mothers in one of our songs.” Says Matata. “We would not be living our dreams if it weren’t for their visions. When naysayers told us that making a living off as an artist was an unrealistic dream, our mothers saw the vision.” They add.
The album features 15 tracks, including Uhh Uhh, Sexting, Baby Mama, and Werute. In it are also high-profile collaborations with stars such as Sauti Sol, Okello Max, Wakadinali, Phy, Reggae artist Liam Bailey from UK and Ghanaian / Norwegian artist, Akuvi.
