Girl Scout Release New Single “Honey” and announce EP Headache Out on November 8
Swedish indie band Girl Scout has dropped their latest single, “Honey,” the second track from their forthcoming five-track EP Headache, which is set to release on November 8, 2024. Along with the single, the band has shared a self-made music video, further showcasing their DIY approach.
“Honey” offers a punchy power-pop vibe, blending upbeat rhythms with subtle hints of melancholy. With playful guitar lines, hook-heavy choruses, and a dash of synth, the track draws comparisons to indie-pop bands like Beach Bunny and Alvvays. Beneath its infectious melodies, the lyrics explore the sadness of growing apart from childhood friends, adding emotional depth to the feel-good tune.
Frontwoman Emma Jansson captures this bittersweet dynamic with lines like:
“Oh honey / Is she really nice to you? / Growing up together and now you’ve grown apart / And isn’t it funny / How little things, they mean so much / I’m worried about you / But I don’t think you noticed at all.”
In a statement, Jansson elaborated:
“Honey is about the bittersweet experience of close friends growing apart, the heartache, and the reality that you can’t keep everyone in your life forever. It expresses frustration and concern when those relationships become imbalanced. It started as an acoustic song, but it ended up working better as our version of a 2010s indie rock track.”
The Concept Behind Headache
The new EP Headache promises to deliver an emotional rollercoaster of raw, complex feelings. Jansson explains the concept behind the project:
"Headache is AAAAAAAH!!!!!! THAT feeling. It’s straight-up hate and frustration—feeling hurt, feeling weird about people, and feeling weird about life as a whole. Consider our gears ground. (But in a funny way.)"
While “Honey” leans into playful melodies, fans can expect a variety of sounds and moods across the EP, blending Girl Scout’s knack for catchy indie-pop hooks with deeper emotional themes.
With Headache dropping on November 8, anticipation is building for Girl Scout’s fresh take on indie rock. Their playful, heartfelt sound has already captured attention, and with songs like “Honey,” the band seems poised to continue making waves in the indie music scene.
